It's been a while since I read Soccer Empire but if memory serves me, the big difference is Dubois is an academic and Williams is a journalist. Soccer Empire takes a more academic look at the impact of the 1998 team and is written in a much more academic language (while still very readable).
Va Va Voom hangs largely around interviews with many of tje key figures in modern French football and js much more the football story than the story of France.
If you’ve read it, how does Va Va Voom compare to Laurent Dubois’ Soccer Empire book?
